PBE Games 100th Title

I hit a mental milestone this past week, releasing my 100th PBE Games title via DriveThruRPG, with another dozen or so bundles on top of that. Half that tally is Dungeons in Blue stuff, and another third is Uncommon Ground texture packs. The rest is a mix of game aids and virtual tabletop maps. It's a bit odd to look at my releases spreadsheet and see how long it's gotten. I guess I should hold a sale or something to celebrate.

For now, here's a look at the latest releases, which, unsurprisingly, are all Dungeons in Blue and Uncommon Ground:

In addition, I just updated the Dungeons in Blue Master List to include the latest products and upcoming releases.

That's it for now, enjoy the rest of your weekend, and Father's Day! Thanks for reading.

PBE Games Latest

It's been a busy few weeks, and I've had my head down finishing off some new Dungeons in Blue geomorphs, plus a couple stand-alone maps in a new black and white style. I've also released a pile of stuff along the way, so let's get right to it, starting with some new Uncommon Ground textures.

Scribbled Ink and Flowing Flame are two-color hatching patterns, both flowing and abstract. Encrusted Stone is a full-color rock texture with mottled... stuff on the surface. All Uncommon Ground textures come in four color variants, all tile seamlessly.

Next up is a set of Dungeons in Blue geomorphs, Grand Hallways. I recently introduced double-wide geomorph connections, and this 24-tile set is focused on the worked versions of these passages. In addition to basic intersections and straight hall runs, it includes a number of transition tiles to connect grand hallways with single-width passages. I'll be releasing a similar set for natural tunnels, Grand Caverns, very soon (next week I hope).

Finally we come to Traitor's Cavern, a two-level dungeon map depicting natural caverns that have been worked and expanded into a small network of chambers and rooms. The caverns are sparsely decorated with natural debris and a few permanent constructed features, leaving plenty of space for the GM's own
additions. The map pack contains:

  • Player and GM maps (with / without grid), and a distressed player-handout map, in virtual tabletop format - JPG, 75px per five-foot square.
  • Player and GM maps (with / without grid), and a distressed player-handout map, in reference format - PDF, four five-foot squares per inch.
  • Map notes and a brief history of Traitors' Cavern.

That's it for new releases. The next couple weeks should see Dungeons in Blue - Grand Caverns, more Uncommon Ground textures, three more Dungeons in Blue tile sets, and Black Sage Mine, another map pack similar to Traitor's Cavern.

Let's finish things off with some images...

Aaaand, that's it for today! You can find these, and the rest of PBE Games' stuff, right here on DriveThruRPG. As always thanks for checking this out. Have a great weekend!

PBE Games - New Release Roundup

Here's a summary of recent PBE Games releases, including a bunch of Uncommon Ground textures, new Dungeons in Blue geomorphs, and a new One Page table. Starting with Uncommon Ground:

I've also released the Uncommon Ground Sampler, a set of six one-off color variants of existing texture packs, available as a pay what you want package. These are all new color schemes, not available in the base texture packs they're taken from. As a whole they provide a no/low cost intro to the series.

Uncommon Ground Sampler Preview
For Dungeons in Blue, I've released three new geomorph sets that introduce cross-tile water features. Each tile in Set M, Set N, and Set O includes a river or lake / sea feature that crosses between tiles (and these three tile sets are available in a discount bundle here). All these features are seamless with similar water features, though obviously they do not tile well with standard tiles. Cross-tile water features are one of three new tile borders I'm working on now. The other two are grand hallways and grand caverns, double-wide passages that link up in the same manner as regular tile edge passages. I'll also be putting out a number of transitional tiles to deal with standard / grand passage linkages. Lots of new stuff Coming Soon (TM). Also, be sure you check out the Tile of the Week series right here on the blog. Each week I'll be publishing one or more new tiles, all compatible with Dungeons in Blue. This week's entry, for example, is a pair of cross-tile river geomorphs.

Dungeons in Blue Set O Preview

Last up: One Page #18 - Minor Powers which features ready-to-use mundane and magical powers and feats for your fantasy role-playing game. Give your players a little perk or add color to a favorite NPC with these abilities!

That's it for today. As always, thanks for reading, have a great weekend!

PBE Games - Release Update

Here's a quick update on what's new from PBE Games on DriveThruRPG (or RPGNow if you prefer). First up is a new trio of Dungeons in Blue Small Dungeons:
Of course all three maps are available in Map Pack #3 at a discount. If you're unfamiliar with Small Dungeons, each map comes in two flavors, a stand-alone version, and a gemorph ready version that can be connected up with other Dungeons in Blue tiles. Here are the one-third scale previews for these maps, showing the player versions of the two types:

Small Dungeons #7

Small Dungeons #8

Small Dungeons #9
I've also published three more Uncommon Ground textures:
And that's it for newly published stuff. Coming up, I'll have a new set of Dungeons in Blue tiles featuring underground streams and lakes, plus more Uncommon Ground, and a new stand alone dungeon map, Traitors' Cavern. There's a new One Page coming out soon too.

Thanks, as always for reading, happy gaming!

Dungeons in Blue - Geomorph Preview

Figured I'd share an early preview of one of the upcoming sets of Dungeons in Blue geomorphs. The upcoming sets are a bit different from previous; they all feature either a river or a lake / sea shoreline that cuts across the tile. Rivers match up to rivers, shoreline with shoreline, so if you want to create a dungeon full of underground river pirates, you're covered.

This is a one-third scale preview. I snapped in some quick lines to mark the geomorph edges. I'm sure river police will say river junctures don't work like that, but I am trying to avoid showing flow direction, so tiles can be rotated / swapped, and I'm also maintaining width, so they tile.

PBE Games New Releases

Time for another update on PBE Games products. Here are the latest releases, covering the last two weeks:

Aaand, that's about it. Coming up I have a trio of Dungeons in Blue Small Dungeons, more Uncommon Ground textures, and at least one more One Page queued up. I also have a new trio of full Dungeons in Blue tile sets in the works, but they're a ways out. Lastly, I'm working on some new stand-alone virtual table top / PDF dungeon maps in a black and white style. I'm hoping to get the first of these out by the end of April.

Here are a couple preview images for current and upcoming stuff.

Uncommon Ground - Aggregation
Dungeons in Blue - More Tunnel and Cave
Dungeons in Blue - Small Dungeons #9

Thanks for reading, as always!

PBE Games: New One Page / Uncommon Ground

The latest PBE Games releases since the last update, starting with a few new One Page tables:
Numbers 15 and 16 complete the terrain and hazard tables I started with One Page #8. Pack #3 is a bundle deal offering One Page numbers 11 to 15 at a discount.

I've also released several new Uncommon Ground texture packs:
  • Lunar is an irregular stone surface with a monochromatic appearance.
  • Sand Burn is a grainy stone surface.
  • Wooden Waves depicts smooth-grained wood with wave-like darker lines.
All Uncommon Ground textures are licensed for personal or commercial use. You can see the license right here. Here are the preview image for these new textures.

That's it for this update. Thanks for reading!

I've finally finished off the next three tile sets for Dungeons in Blue, Set J, Set K, and Set L. Each of these sets contains nine 100x100-foot full-sized tiles, ready to drop into whatever virtual tabletop you prefer. These sets are also available in a bundle, Triple Pack Four, at a discounted price.

As usual these maps include GM and player versions, plus a full map key, preview image and brief read me. All image files are 100px per five-foot square PNGs. Here are the one-third scale preview images for these new sets:

Happy mapping!

PBE Games - The Litany of Releases

Since last post, I've been busy with new stuff over on DriveThruRPG / RPGNow. Here's an update on the latest PBE Games releases, beginning with several new entries in the Uncommon Ground texture pack series:

  • Flecked - A stone surface with flecks of bright material embedded.
  • Erosion Control - Rough stone with lighter areas protruding from a darker substrate.
  • Petrified Lichen - A stone texture with an irregularly colored surface.
  • Worm Rock - A two-color hatching pattern for old-school style maps.
Note there are previews of each texture available on the relevant product page. Looking forward, I have another eight to ten Uncommon Ground textures almost ready to roll, including two more hatching patterns, another wood grain, and more stone too.
Petrified Lichen Preview
On the Dungeons in Blue front, I put out Twisty Tunnels, a geomorph pack of natural caves. This is similar to the Corridors and Intersections pack in that it's primarily passages, intersections, and curves, with very few rooms. As I've been making more use of geomorphs in my own game, I've discovered you need a lot of these connector-style tiles to fit things together. I have a similar package, Tunnel and Cave, in the works, which provides the same sort of passages and intersections, but each tile is also a natural to worked tunnel connection.

Twisty Tunnels Preview
I've also updated the Master List to include the most recent additions to Dungeons in Blue, plus planned additional releases. Look for three more full geomorph packs, plus the associated triple pack in the next week or two.

Lastly, I released One Page #14 - Arctic Features and Hazards which provides twenty locale-based minor encounters ready for use in any fantasy RPG. I have two more of these planned, one for Jungles, and one for Wetlands, which should round out the One Page terrain types nicely. I'll be doing a standard five pack deal for numbers 11-15, and I'm also planning on bundling up all the outdoor features and hazards One Pages into the Great Outdoors Collection.

Worm Rock Preview
OK, so that's about it for the product updates. Thanks as always for reading, and enjoy the weekend!

PBE Games - Many New Things

Still playing a bit of catch-up with posting post holidays. Every time I think I'm done with that, I find something else to... Ooo shiny!

You get the idea.

Here's the new stuff from this week (and last):

The new kid on the block, Uncommon Ground, is the result of me delving into texture creation. Each texture pack contains four versions of a single seamless base texture, each rendered in a different color. All textures are 2048 by 2048 px PNG images, so they should be easy to import into any digital art application. Textures are all licensed for private or commercial use (read the terms here).

Here's a preview sample of True Grain.

I hope you'll check out some of the new stuff above, thanks as always for reading.

PBE Games Flash Frozen Sale!

tl;dr: All PBE Games individual products are now 20% off on DriveThruRPG and RPGNow.

Well the polar vortex / winter storm Ion is here, and it's minus 9F with gusty winds. I have a nice snow drift across my front door, and I'm wagering this is all because I ordered a replacement hard drive for my desktop 2nd day delivery!

Rather than complain about the weather I decided to have some fun with it, so while I'm outside freezing my fingertips off as I clear the driveway, you can get 20% off all individual PBE Games products. That includes the two latest releases, One Page Number Twelve : Dungeon Junk, and Dungeons in Blue - Small Dungeons #5, which were just released this past weekend.

The sale ends when the temperature at my local weather station breaks 0F.

Keep Warm. Don't Starve.
Aaand, the sale is done. I neglected to update prices last night, but the temperature this AM was a blistering 11F, so definitely above zero. Hope you found something good.

PBE Games - First 2014 Releases

After dealing with New Year's computer failure, I managed to get the first two products of 2014 out the door. Of course as I was working on uploading the files, I realized I hadn't updated product IDs on the new releases to reflect the new year, so I had to tweak a few files. Products 1051 - 1053 are lost forever. Not that it really matters to anyone but me of course -- who notices product IDs? Anyhow, here's the new stuff:

  • One Page #12 - Dungeon Junk offers twenty piles of possibly useful trash, ready to plug into your labyrinth. Who knows what your players will use it for?
  • Dungeons in Blue Small Dungeons #5 - adds another stand-alone / geomorph hybrid map to the mix. As usual there are player and GM versions of each map, along with the usual map key, preview image, and readme file.
That's it for new products, but not for the day. With bitterly cold weather ahead, I'll be making some chili today for sure!

PBE Games - Catching Up

I failed Marketing 101 last week, because I didn't announce the new stuff. Here's the list from this week and last:

I'm working on rounding out the terrain-based tables over the holidays. Mountains and hills are done, with arctic, wetlands, and jungle in the works. I also have two dungeon-based One Pages plus the next three Dungeons in Blue Small Dungeons almost ready to roll out.

Lastly, I'm working on a quick set of Dungeons in Blue tiles that are simple corridors and intersections. One of my customers noted a distinct lack of plain connections, so I thought I'd pull together a quick set to fill the void. This should be done later today.

Edit: aaaand done! Corridors and Intersections is now available as pay what you want.

That's it for today. Have a good weekend!

  • Set G - Twelve tiles in assorted sizes.
  • Set H - Nine 100x100 foot tiles.

Set G

Set H

Set I

The Master List has also been updated to include all available Dungeons in Blue products.

That's it! This is probably the last post until next week due to the Thanksgiving holiday. My Wilds game is on hold, and I'll be in food coma anyhow. Enjoy the holiday if you celebrate it!

PBE Games - New One Pages

I guess I neglected to post an announcement last week about the lone product I published, so let me quickly catch things up:

All One Page products are designed for use with any fantasy role-playing game. Each includes twenty ready-to-roll table entries based on a single idea or category.

Next week I'll be publishing three more Dungeons in Blue tile sets, available individually or as a triple pack bundle. I'll also be updating the Master List index to reflect all the latest Dungeons in Blue products.

PBE Games - Small Dungeons #3 / Map Pack Now Available

Pretty much what it says in the title. The third Dungeons in Blue Small Dungeons map is now available on DriveThruRPG, as is a bundle deal featuring all three maps in this series. Small Dungeons are dual-purpose virtual tabletop maps: each contains stand-alone and geomorph-ready versions of, well, a small dungeon. Player and GM versions of each map are provided. All maps are drawn in the classic blue style at 100px per five-foot square, and are fully compatible with Dungeons in Blue geomorphs. Here are the links:

Of course you can see all the PBE Games products right here.

Here's the preview image from Small Dungeons #3, which shows the player version of both maps. As you can see this is a cave complex, with some rather disjoint caverns. Luckily the GM version of the map shows some secret details.

Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!

PBE Games Q3 - 2013 / New Releases

I was looking at my product spreadsheet this morning, and was surprised to see I'm up to 30 published products so far this year, not counting free / bundle items. When I started this project up in February, I expected to put out a title a month, but when I started doing maps, the pace really picked up. Of those 30 products, 19 are virtual maps.

PBE Games - Three is Better than Two

I managed to get out three new products this week, though one is kind of a cheat, being a bundle of Dungeons in Blue stuff.

First up is One Page #4 - Curious Mundane Objects, the latest One Page, which contains twenty strange objects you can use to confuse or baffle your players! Place them in a local curio shop, a mage's laboratory, or a treasure vault to add a touch of weirdness to your game.

Entries & Exits Two one-third scale preview
Then it's on to Dungeons in Blue with two new releases, Entries and Exits Set Two, which contains a dozen geomorphs featuring dungeon entrances, exits, and level transitions. This is also the final product in the big Parts and Pieces Pack, which includes all the assorted special tile and icon pack products I've released to date (at a discount of course).

I'll be spending the rest of the morning updating the Dungeons in Blue Master List with the latest product listings and projected new product releases. November / December should see three new tile sets and an accompanying bundle deal. Of course there are already two more Small Dungeons on the schedule to go with Small Dungeons #1, and I'll likely add a three-map bundle to the lineup as well.

That's about it for news today. Thanks for reading, happy gaming!

PBE Games - New Releases

Two new releases this week:

Small Dungeons #1 is now available. The Small Dungeons series adds stand-alone maps to the Dungeons in Blue collection! Every Small Dungeons product contains a ready-to-fill dungeon map drawn in the classic blue style. Each map includes assorted tricks, traps, and features, but leaves plenty of room for the GM's own additions. In addition to player and GM stand-alone maps, every Small Dungeons product also includes a geomorph-ready version of both maps, adding the doors, rooms, and corridors required to connect the dungeon to other Dungeons in Blue tiles.

I've also released One Page #3 : Fabulous Jewelry, which contains twenty unique pieces of jewelry, ready for your treasure trove! Each entry includes a brief description of the piece, plus a suggested gold piece value. Many pieces also include a bit of lore or a minor hook that can provide inspiration for further adventure.

That's it for this week, thanks for reading!
