The Turn
Most of the group spends their first day back in town cleaning up, fixing gear, resupplying, and relaxing. It's been a long strange trip. The meat the group smoked on the trail is going bad, so they dispose of that. Several people go to have some of the recovered treasure evaluated.
The gold foil is easy. Xon and Adrienne pay a visit to Javiera and her new scribe's shop. She does not have any need of the foil but recommends they contact her neighbor, who does illustrations and fancier work. He offers to buy the foil for 20 GP on the spot. The price seems fair, the party accepts. Next stop is Jagr House, where the jeweler spends a good 20 minutes evaluating the goblets. After some negotiation, he agrees to buy them for 1000 GP, paid in a mix of gold and smaller gems. (250 GP, 15x50 GP gems). The pair agrees.
The jeweler also takes a look at one of the polished disks. He suggests it is made from some sort of shell, although he is unfamiliar with the material. He would be interested in buying if it is for sale, and offers 10 GP.
Hagan takes the book (carefully wrapped) and asks Mosk for a recommendation for a locksmith. The innkeeper suggests the Iron Door in Silverforge. Hagan makes his way there and meets with Kov Duvel the locksmith. He is wary of handling the book, which is obviously not a mundane item, but he does examine the lock carefully. When he's done, he shakes his head. "I don't think I can help you. I've never seen a lock like that. It's got at least 10 tumblers in there, and they're tiny. I doubt anyone can unlock it without the key."
Hagan thanks him for his time, offers him a small gratuity for his time and takes his leave. Aaron has already informed him that using a knock spell won't harm the book, so his next stop is a quick visit to the Cat to ask about identify spells. Aroz says he could perform that service for a fee of 25 GP.
Maarek heads for his temple and makes some cautious inquiries about the old cults and any languages or writing systems discovered in the new world. Father Sten Altman shows him a few scraps of scrolls recovered from the ruined city during the early days. The show the same thin writing style the party has seen elsewhere (the lizard scrolls). He also lets Maarek review one of the standard texts on the old cults, which refreshes his knowledge of these forbidden religions. Altman has no knowledge of any thin humanoids in the colony.
Zenobe makes some inquiries around town, looking for anyone who does lost-wax casting. He finds a few artisans who do this sort of work and will prepare casts of small objects for 10 to 15 GP each, depending on the object being cast.
August 18
Aaron starts working on the book but quickly hits an obstacle. Knock doesn't open the lock. He uses his prepared identify spell to see if he can figure out why, and the magic reveals an extremely potent enchantment protecting the book. He's not sure how he's going to get past it.
General note on religion: It's not likely the established churches are going to have any information about the languages or runes you've found because this is an entirely new continent inhabited by beings that are not human.
