PBE Games Latest

It's been a busy few weeks, and I've had my head down finishing off some new Dungeons in Blue geomorphs, plus a couple stand-alone maps in a new black and white style. I've also released a pile of stuff along the way, so let's get right to it, starting with some new Uncommon Ground textures.

Scribbled Ink and Flowing Flame are two-color hatching patterns, both flowing and abstract. Encrusted Stone is a full-color rock texture with mottled... stuff on the surface. All Uncommon Ground textures come in four color variants, all tile seamlessly.

Next up is a set of Dungeons in Blue geomorphs, Grand Hallways. I recently introduced double-wide geomorph connections, and this 24-tile set is focused on the worked versions of these passages. In addition to basic intersections and straight hall runs, it includes a number of transition tiles to connect grand hallways with single-width passages. I'll be releasing a similar set for natural tunnels, Grand Caverns, very soon (next week I hope).

Finally we come to Traitor's Cavern, a two-level dungeon map depicting natural caverns that have been worked and expanded into a small network of chambers and rooms. The caverns are sparsely decorated with natural debris and a few permanent constructed features, leaving plenty of space for the GM's own
additions. The map pack contains:

  • Player and GM maps (with / without grid), and a distressed player-handout map, in virtual tabletop format - JPG, 75px per five-foot square.
  • Player and GM maps (with / without grid), and a distressed player-handout map, in reference format - PDF, four five-foot squares per inch.
  • Map notes and a brief history of Traitors' Cavern.

That's it for new releases. The next couple weeks should see Dungeons in Blue - Grand Caverns, more Uncommon Ground textures, three more Dungeons in Blue tile sets, and Black Sage Mine, another map pack similar to Traitor's Cavern.

Let's finish things off with some images...

Tile of the Week #14

The latest Tile of the Week entry. This week's tile is a small cliff-edged and boulder-strewn island. If you're going to have water, you need islands too, right?

The Wilds - Foul Air

The party is well into it now, with zombies, kobolds, and bugbears popping up everywhere. I'm guessing someone's going to die next turn. Poor Tesso can't dodge to save his life.

Landmark Beta (the game formerly known as EQ Landmark)

Initial thoughts on Landmark the Game, a voxel-based builder MMO by SOE. This is based on 8-10 hours play, with some additional notes at the end. This is a bit stream-of consciousness, since I'm trying to write as I play.

Tile of the Week 13

The latest Tile of the Week entry. This tile is an entry passage, with a cross-tile stream leading further into a cave complex. Someone's arranged a few stones near the southern entry.

Wilds - Pit Stop

Pit full of corpses. Necromancer running around. Kobolds with crossbows. What could possibly go wrong?

Wilds - After Them!

The party has finally escaped the smoke and flame of the bugbear lair, but their foes have seemingly vanished. The only clue as to their whereabouts, a slamming door to the north...

The Wilds - Out of the Fire

The party is suffering from the dense smoke trapped in the bugbear lair, and people are starting to droop. Or drop. Time for some action!

Wilds - Still Burning

Smack-sploosh! The mid-air oil flask hits the south side of the east door frame in the stubby hall, spraying more oil into the hall and bugbear lair, renewing the flames there. Black smoke billows up, further obscuring the room.

PBE Games - New Release Roundup

Here's a summary of recent PBE Games releases, including a bunch of Uncommon Ground textures, new Dungeons in Blue geomorphs, and a new One Page table. Starting with Uncommon Ground:

I've also released the Uncommon Ground Sampler, a set of six one-off color variants of existing texture packs, available as a pay what you want package. These are all new color schemes, not available in the base texture packs they're taken from. As a whole they provide a no/low cost intro to the series.

For Dungeons in Blue, I've released three new geomorph sets that introduce cross-tile water features. Each tile in Set M, Set N, and Set O includes a river or lake / sea feature that crosses between tiles (and these three tile sets are available in a discount bundle here). All these features are seamless with similar water features, though obviously they do not tile well with standard tiles. Cross-tile water features are one of three new tile borders I'm working on now. The other two are grand hallways and grand caverns, double-wide passages that link up in the same manner as regular tile edge passages. I'll also be putting out a number of transitional tiles to deal with standard / grand passage linkages. Lots of new stuff Coming Soon (TM). Also, be sure you check out the Tile of the Week series right here on the blog. Each week I'll be publishing one or more new tiles, all compatible with Dungeons in Blue. This week's entry, for example, is a pair of cross-tile river geomorphs.

Last up: One Page #18 - Minor Powers which features ready-to-use mundane and magical powers and feats for your fantasy role-playing game. Give your players a little perk or add color to a favorite NPC with these abilities!

That's it for today. As always, thanks for reading, have a great weekend!

Tile of the Week #11

The latest Tile of the Week entry. This week's entry is actually two half-tiles, and they're part of a new style I'm doing that feature cross-tile water courses. Each of these tiles has half a stream running along one edge. Stick them together to make a single full tile. Next week's entry will show a little trick for combining multiple tiles in this format.

Wilds - Too Oily

There's a moment of surprise as the oil spatters across the floor, but the flying torch prompts swift action. The recent fight in the so-called Fire Room burns clear in everyone's memory. "GET OUT!" yells Durego, turning and leading the charge back into the bugbear lair. He and Mordikarr crowd into Maro, who grabs Rawon and runs. In the lair, Ohwatoo and Tesso dive out of the way as best they can...

Diablo 3 - Cursebreaker

Time for another concise achievement list! This table summarizes all the Cursebreaker achievements, act by act. It includes name, location, type, and if the event is available as a bounty (if confirmed - there are several entries that are still question marks). You can find more Diablo 3 pages here.

Tile of the Week #10

The latest Tile of the Week entry. This entry is one of a new style I'm working on, which features geomorph-crossing water features. The river and lake edges will match up between these tiles (though a few older tiles are out of luck, as their water edges weren't designed with this system in mind). This particular tile shows a river (well, stream really), leading into an underground lake or sea. To the north, someone's excavated a fortified tunnel system, while to the south, natural caves lead away from the watercourse.

Wilds - Further Exploration

A big chunk of exploration and roaming here. The party is facing a ton of choices, and they're not 100% sure which way they want to go. This report covers two turns.
